NEW PLASTERS
It is advisable to allow new plastered surfaces to mature for a period of at least 6 months after the application of a recommended coat of lime-wash to ensure thorough drying of plasters. Repairs to take care of water seepage/leakage to be carried out before taking up painting job. Remove loose particles and paint flakes. Rub with sand paper to ensure that the surface is dry and free from dust, dirt, grease, etc.,
REPAINTING
In case of repainting jobs, previous coatings of lime wash, powder distemper etc., must be thoroughly scrapped off. Earlier coatings of oil based or synthetic emulsion based paint need not be remove, if in sound condition. However, the gloss or sheen of such coatings must be removed by thorough sanding. Cracked or flaked paint must be removed completely. Fungus affected areas need separate adequate treatment. Repair the cracked portion of plasters and areas affected by leaks, drainage etc., well prior to painting. Allow the surface to dry sufficiently.
Normally for repainting no special primer is required. Thin two parts of Wallz® Acrylic Emulsion with one part of water or use Wallz® Cement Primer-Water thinnable as a priming coat. For new plaster and wherever brushing is resorted to for removal of previous Synthetic enamel coating, a liberal coat of Wallz® Cement Primer-Solvent Thinnable is highly recommended. This will take care of excessive absorption and alkalinity of the walls. For best results, fill the dents and smoothen the undulation of wall by applying Wallz Acrylic Wall Putty / Wallz® Spray Plaster OR Wallz® FINISHA – Cement Based Putty.
Wherever application of spot putty or full putty (avoid use of Plaster of Paris & its admixtures for filling dents & Cracks) is resorted to a liberal coat of Wallz® Cement Primer-Water Thinnable is recommended as an undercoat on the top of putty for eliminating the patchy appearance and improved coverage. Do not expose the primed surface unpainted with finish coat for a period of more than 24 hrs. To avoid premature paint failure.
